Down Syndrome
By the Numbers

1 - Down syndrome is the number one chromosomal birth defect.

1862 - The year that Dr. John Langdon Down first characterized Down syndrome.

21 - The number of the chromosome normally affected by Down syndrome.

1959 - The Year that Dr. Jerome Lejeune discovered that it was an extra 21st chromosome that caused Down syndrome

3 - The number of chromosome 21 copies most people with Down syndrome have.

95 - The approximate percentage of people with Down syndrome that have the Trisomy 21 type.

350,000 - The number of people in the United States living with Down syndrome.

56 - The average number of years a typical person with Down syndrome will live.

100 - The percentage of people with Down syndrome that are capable of leading full, productive lives.

1001 - The number of ways that you can help raise awareness and include individuals with Down syndrome in everyday life.

TVDSA Bi-Monthly Meeting Reminder

Tuesday January 12th, 2010 @ 7:00PM

Along with the hope and possibilities of a new year, we are excited to announce new programs and a new format for our meetings!

Networking and idea sharing with each other and individuals with Down syndrome of all ages will be a priority!

Come, learn more about the new direction of TVDSA, the new marketing materials, outreach programs and activities. Explore the unlimited possibilities and opportunities available to people with Down Syndrome. Meet new board members, supporters, and volunteers; Troy McClain may even show up!

Time will be dedicated to networking with others. Also, come with ideas for future meeting topics for all age groups such as:

Alternative therapies
Schooling options
IEP's
Nutrition and supplements
Behavior

Legislation
Healthcare
Sign language
Activities and sports
Sibling support

Whatever interests you!

The new adult and infant/toddler groups will meet separately for support and activity planning, so come and be inspired!

Now is the time to get involved, learn from each other and make a difference!

The whole family is welcome! Free sitters provided for younger children.

We look forward to an exciting year of change and opportunity!
